Matsuri has been voted “Best Japanese Restaurant” by Baltimore Magazine and the Baltimore City Paper year after year, and has been the recipient of the highest rankings from the Baltimore Sun and Zagat.
Opening in Federal Hill in 1996, Matsuri was the culmination of Bill Tien’s vision for Japanese cuisine in Baltimore. Prior to opening Matsuri, Tien had been involved as an owner or chef in multi-cultural restaurants for more than 35 years, preferring to specialize in Japanese cuisine.
Matsuri is frequented by Baltimore’s many sports celebrities as well as visiting filmmakers and political figures. Tien’s chefs are routinely hired to prepare sushi dinners for customers and their friends in their homes.
Over the last few years, Tien has emphasized catering as part of Matsuri’s offerings. Matsuri also offers the second floor of the restaurant as a private dining room that can be reserved for parties of up to 50.
